The most passionate celebration of any Liverpool player from Saturday’s win at Arsenal came from right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds defender was not among the goalscorers in the 3-0 drubbing that Jurgen Klopp’s side inflicted at the Emirates Stadium.
But you could see the explosion of relief and passion from Alexander-Arnold when Diogo Jota headed Liverpool into a 1-0 lead in the second half.
It had been a difficult few weeks for the 22-year-old, who was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
So when he whipped in that ridiculous cross, and Jota headed home, it was a huge reminder to anyone who doubts the Liverpool academy player that he remains an unbelievable talent in spite of Southgate’s snub.
It was such a good delivery in fact that Danny Murphy, speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day show, has compared him to a certain David Beckham.
Murphy said: “A phenomenal cross. I’ve only ever seen David Beckham cross the ball like Trent. Brilliant reaction from a super player. He deserves great credit.”
The way Alexander-Arnold wrapped his foot around the ball was quite Beckham-esque.
His quality has never been in doubt, but it was only the Liverpool man’s sixth assist in all competitions this season, having set up 31 goals over the past two campaigns, which illustrates that consistency more than anything else has held him back.
