According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United are interested in bringing Andros Townsend back to the club this summer, with John Lundstram also a target.
The Magpies used the free agent market last summer to sign Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick last summer, and could now do the same again due to budget restrictions at St James’ Park.
One of the targets is Townsend, who joined Newcastle back in January 2016 before leaving just months later, heading to Crystal Palace following Newcastle’s relegation.
Townsend quickly became a fan favourite having arrived from Spurs, bagging four goals and two assists in 13 games for the Magpies, but his time with the club was brief.
The 29-year-old is now out of contract this summer, and Newcastle are interested in handing him a return to Tyneside on a free transfer if the Eagles let him go.
Townsend isn’t the only bargain target though, as Newcastle also fancy luring Sheffield United’s Lundstram to the club as his contract winds down.

Lundstram, 26, has already indicated that he will be leaving the Blades, and with their relegation now close, he may already want a Premier League return.
That could come with Newcastle if he stays, and Lundstram’s box-to-box ability should be hugely appealing – though they will likely face competition for his signature.
