Yoshinori Muto wants to bring an end to his forgettable stint as a Newcastle United player this summer and, according to the Chronicle, no one at St James’ Park would stand in the Japan international’s way.
It is now 29 months since the £10 million striker scored his one and only Premier League goal in those black and white stripes.
In October 2018, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle were left heart-broken by a ruthless comeback from Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side, Alexis Sanchez scoring a stoppage-time winner at Old Trafford.
At the time, Muto, who put Newcastle two up inside just ten minutes at the Theatre of Dreams, might have felt his well-taken finish was the start of a promising career with the Tyneside giants.
In reality, that was about as good as it got for the former Mainz star.
Flash forward to the present day and, after falling behind Joelinton, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle in Newcastle’s pecking order (oh the ignominy), Muto is struggling for game-time on loan at relegation-threatened La Liga outfit Eibar.

Despite his lack of starts, the Chronicle reports that the 28-year-old would jump at the chance to stay in Spain beyond this summer. And, what’s more, Newcastle have no plans to scupper those dreams.
Muto, who earns £54,000-a-week, has no future at St James’ Park.
With just one year left on his contract, Newcastle look destined to make a sizeable loss on a player who was tipped for big things when he arrived for a cool £10 million three years ago.
