Chris Wood has told talkSPORT that reported Tottenham target Nick Pope is ‘one of the best’ goalkeepers he has worked with.

The Burnley striker claimed that Pope should be England’s number one shot-stopper, even though Jordan Pickford hasn’t let his country down on the international stage.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Spurs are looking at the £30 million Burnley star for the summer, as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Nonetheless, Wood shared what Pope is like and the qualities he has as a goalkeeper.

“Without a shadow of a doubt (Pope could step up for England),” said Wood. “That wouldn’t cross my mind. He would stand up and deliver.

“He would show everybody what he’s about. He is one of the best keepers I have worked with. Shot-stopping, I think he’s number one. He’s unbelievable at that.

“Taking pressure from crosses and corners. He is absolutely fantastic. And every year, he is getting better at playing out from the back with his feet.

“But, ultimately, if I am putting a keeper in goal, I want them to stop goals. He has been a credit with that, for us, for a number of years now. He keeps a minimum of 12 clean sheets a season, for Burnley, so it’s fantastic in that sense.

“In my eyes, he should be England number one, obviously, it’s hard to knock Pickford out of the spot when he does well for the national team.”

Pope might just be the long-term answer for Spurs, especially with Lloris entering the latter years of his career.

There is no obvious long-term replacement at the club, so Spurs may have to check the market to fill that void.

Plus, Lloris’ error-prone ways have reared its ugly head, once again, and whilst Joe Hart has been picked, he’s not exactly providing the much-needed competition.
