Wolves starlet Theo Corbeanu has taken his chance in style during the international break with Canada coach John Herdmann hailing the teenager’s impact, as reported by Airdrie Today.
At the age of just 18, the Wolverhampton Wanderers wonder-kid has already played more games for his country than he has for his club.
Corbeanu was handed his senior bow for the Canadian national team against Bermuda on Friday and didn’t wait long to make his mark.
The Ontario-born forward scored with his first touch after coming off the bench in the 5-1 win. Three days later, Corbeanu was rewarded with a maiden start as Canada hit 11 goals without reply against the Caymen Islands.
Alongside Alphonso Davies and Besiktas talisman Cyle Larin, The Canucks appear to have unearthed another diamond in the rough – much to the delight of their 45-year-old manager.
“‘Just as he was taking the field, I said to him ‘Son … you’ve got 15 minutes. Sometimes these moments don’t come back. Go make an impact’,” Herdman said, reflecting on Corbeanu’s dream debut against Bermuda.
“And his bloody first touch was a goal. I’m proud of him.”

Samuel Piette was also full of praise for his young teammate
“First time I saw him on the pitch, I couldn’t tell you if he was left-footed or right-footed, which is an amazing skill. I’m not even sure he knows as well, to be fair,” Piette quipped..
“He’s really mature for his age, outside the pitch but on the pitch as well.”
The next big challenge, for Corbeanu, is to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team plans at Wolves. With four goals and a further two assists this season at youth level, the former Toronto starlet is certainly on the right track.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail recently, academy manager Scott Sellars claimed that Corbeanu has been the U23s stand-out talent since ‘the first minute of pre-season’.
