Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of Real Madrid starlet Miguel Gutierrez but will once again miss out on a player he tried and failed to sign at Manchester United, as reported by Defensa Central.

Four years ago, when a sullen-looking Mourinho was still attempting to get a tune out of his expensively-assembled United squad, the former Los Blancos boss attempted to lure one of Europe’s most talented young defenders away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Marca, however, a then-16-year-old Gutierrez turned down a move to Old Trafford, opting against the idea of relocating his family away from Madrid to Manchester.

Four seasons on, Gutierrez is still awaiting his La Liga debut.

The youngster is still a member of Real Madrid’s reserve team, watching on from the sidelines as Zinedine Zidane hands out debuts like they are going out of fashion to many of his Castilla teammates.

Defensa Central, however, believe that Zidane is still a big admirer of Gutierrez’s talents.

The Spain U19 left-back is just unfortunate that, while Real have had to deal with an almost unprecedented injury crisis this term, Marcelo and Ferland Mendy have remained fit and fresh.

Gutierrez is expected to force his way into the first-team picture sooner rather than later, however. And, despite Mourinho’s best efforts, the technically-gifted full-back looks set to hand Tottenham the same answer he gave Manchester United in 2017.

DC points out that Gutierrez has not asked to leave Real Madrid and is loving life under Bernabeu legend Raul Gonzalez; now the club’s B-team coach.

“He has quality, ability to get forward, a nice strike, he is ambitious and he has a winning mentality… he has a very bright future,” Spain U17 coach David Gordo told AS last year.
