Johnny Briggs who was best known for his iconic role as Mike Baldwin on Coronation Street, died 28 February, aged 85.
At the time, his family said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Johnny Briggs.
“He passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness, with family by his side. He was 85.
“We politely ask for privacy at this time, so that we can quietly grieve as a family and remember the wonderful times we had with him. Thank you.”
How long did Johnny Briggs play Mike Baldwin in Coronation Street?
The late actor first joined the cast of Coronation Street as Mike Baldwin in 1976.
He went on to feature as part of the ITV soap for three decades before leaving the show in 2006.
During his time on the series, he appeared in 2,349 episodes, with many remembering his character for his love triangle with Deirdre Barlow who was married to husband Ken Barlow.
Why did Johnny Briggs leave Coronation Street?
His character, Mike Baldwin, left the show in 2006 as he died in the arms of his love rival Ken Barlow after suffering a heart attack.
Amid his departure from the soap, Briggs won the British Soap Award for lifetime achievement.
Away from his iconic role on-screen, Johnny was married twice and shared six children across his two marriages.
He married his first wife, Caroline Sinclair in 1961 and welcomed son Mark and daughter Karen together.
Briggs married a second time in 1975 to wife Christine Allsop and had sons Michael and Anthony as well as daughters Jennifer and Stephanie together.
