According to Calciomercato, Liverpool want to sign Genk goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt – but face a real battle for his signature.

It’s claimed that Vandevoordt is wanted by Roma as they plan to sign a new goalkeeper, whilst Real Madrid are also keen.

Liverpool are also named as being in the market for Vandevoordt, who is being tabbed as one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe.

Vandevoordt has only made 17 first-team appearances for Genk, but did break a record in 2019, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to appear in the Champions League, aged 17 years and 287 days.

Now 19, Vandevoordt has been starting in goal for Genk of late, and could soon make a move to a major European club.

A move for the Belgian would be a surprise though, as Liverpool recently signed two other young goalkeepers in Marcelo Pitaluga and Liam Hughes.

Add in that Liverpool also have Caoimhin Kelleher, Harvey Davies, Jakub Ojrzynski and Fabian Mrozek, and a move for another young goalkeeper just doesn’t seem like a priority.

Vandevoordt looks to be a big talent, and Michael Edwards is always on the lookout for hot prospects, but this one just doesn’t add up right now.
