Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Patrick Bamford has waxed-lyrical about Illan Meslier.

The goalkeeper has been one of the Whites’ most important players this term, making a number of blockbuster saves that have single-handedly earned the Yorkshire club points.

He was at it again last week, making a couple of world-class saves to deny the likes of Josh Maja and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa against Fulham, and Bamford has gone on the record to speak about how good he is.

“Meslier, is he building up quite a bar tab with you lot with some of the saves he’s made in he last few weeks? How extraordinary has he been?” The podcast’s host asked.

“Mate, he’s actually unreal. He’s so funny as well. He’s down to earth, but sometimes he’ll pretend that he’s big-time and just pretend he’s too big-time to take shots against and winding people up,” Bamford said.

It seems as though Meslier isn’t just an asset on the pitch, he’s also a great character to have in the dressing room.

It’s easy to forget that the Frenchman is only 21 years old, and the fact that he’s such a big character on the training ground at that age is also great to see.

It would be easy for a young player to wilt under the pressure of being in the Premier League or struggle to make an impact in training after moving to a new country, but Meslier has taken to life at Leeds like a duck to water, and Marcelo Bielsa’s side are reaping the rewards.
