Manuel Akanji has long been a name on the Liverpool radar – but he could now end up at rivals Manchester United.
Back in 2017, Michael Edwards targeted Akanji for a move to Anfield in case Liverpool didn’t manage to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
Borussia Dortmund won the race to sign Akanji from Basel for £16million, but that wasn’t the end of Liverpool’s interest in the Swiss defender.
The Reds considered a January move for Akanji earlier this year according to the Daily Mail, but ultimately ended up going with Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak.
With Kabak only on loan, a summer move for Akanji could still have been considered, but he could instead find his way to Manchester United.
90Min report that United fancy signing Akanji, and a swap deal involving midfielder Donny van de Beek could be engineered this summer.

It’s hard to believe that United would give up on Van de Beek less than a year since signing him from Ajax, and the midfielder certainly deserves more of a chance at Old Trafford.
Dortmund have an interest in Van de Beek though, and with United keen on Akanji, a move is somewhat plausible, with the Red Devils seeking a centre back addition.
If Edwards still wants to lure Akanji to Anfield, then he may have to move quickly – and have to come up with an offer more appealing than a swap involving Van de Beek.
