Gareth Bale got some Tottenham Hotspur fans talking a little earlier this week.

The 31-year-old admitted that he plans to return to Real Madrid once his season-long loan at Spurs ends this summer.

Tottenham have the option for a second loan and it was reported that chairman Daniel Levy was planning to keep him in North London for another year.

But the Wales international seemingly has other plans.

Bale has only started six Premier League games under Jose Mourinho all season and despite an upturn in fortunes last month, the attacker’s form seems to have dipped again.

Here’s what former Real president Ramon Calderon told talkSPORT about the situation: “He’s not happy about his time at Tottenham and Mourinho doesn’t seem to be very happy either. He’s not counting on him in many matches and Bale is disappointed and maybe that’s the reason he would like to return.”

Unless Bale helps the Lilywhites to League Cup victory over Manchester City next month and a top-four finish in the Premier League, keeping him doesn’t seem to be the smartest plan.

The former Southampton starlet is on huge money and Tottenham will need the additional revenue gained from qualifying for the Champions League.

But it seems unlikely that Bale – even if he wants to stay – will be sticking around if they finish outside the top four.

As things stand, Mourinho’s side are three points and two places behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
