Reported Everton and Fulham target Silas Wamangituka looks destined to miss out on a big-money summer switch after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in Stuttgart’s defeat to Bayern Munich, as reported by Kicker.
Talk about bad luck.
Saturday’s trip to the Allianz Arena felt like the ideal opportunity for Wamangituka to prove he is ready to join the European elite.
The fearsome Frenchman tore Bayern’s defence apart back in November, giving David Alaba and co nightmares with his explosive acceleration.
But there was to be no repeat of that thrilling performance over the weekend.
Midway through the first half, Stuttgart’s £25 million-rated talisman was forced off, a look of anguish etched on his face.
VFB fans will have feared the worst and, some 24 hours later, sporting director Sven Mislintat confirmed what everyone in Stuttgart had been dreading.
The Bundesliga’s breakthrough star will not be seen again this season. It remains to be seen whether he plays at all before the end of 2021.
“Six to eight months,” said Mislintant when asked how long Wamangituka will be out for.
“He’s a monster boy and will come back strong. He has to let (the news) sink in first. We will decide calmly (when he needs an operation).”

According to EuroSport, the former Paris FC flyer was a summer target for Everton and Fulham, while AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern themselves had shown an interest (Milan Live).
There is one small positive for Stuttgart fans in the wake of Saturday’s devastating news.
At least Wamangituka will still be plying his trade in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in 2021/22, when he recovers from a lengthy spell on the treatment table. Every cloud, hey?
