Everton are said to have ‘sneaked’ ahead of Leeds United in the race to sign Lucas Vazquez, El Gol Digital report.
Leeds are believed to be keen on Vazquez, whose contract at Real Madrid is due to expire in the summer.
But it is Everton who are now believed to be leading the race, according to reports in Spain.
They say that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have already made an approach for the winger, which could put them in a favourable position ahead of Leeds.
Whether the Whites will respond by making a counter-offer remains to be seen.
But Vazquez could be an appealing target for either of the aforementioned clubs.
The Spaniard is a proven winner and has great experience of playing at the very top level.
Vazquez is capable of playing all the way down the right-hand side, which could make him a useful outlet at either Leeds or Everton.
It had been claimed two weeks ago in Deportes Cuatro that Leeds were prepared to offer Vazquez an £80,000-a-week deal to convince him to join Elland Road.
But it seems that they now have a fight on their hands, and beating Everton to the Madrid man could be difficult, after apparently falling behind in the race.
