St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin has been speaking to the BBC about his 16-year-old wonderkid Dylan Reid amid interest from Celtic and Rangers.

The teenager became the youngest player ever to play in the Scottish Premiership when he played the final two minutes against Rangers in March.

Goodwin confirmed that his prodigy has been distracted by interest from Celtic and Rangers. He also states that half a dozen of the ‘big lads’ in England want Reid, as well as sides from Germany.

The BBC quote the 39-year-old as saying: “He’s had his head turned by a number of huge clubs. The two big boys [Rangers and Celtic] in Scotland would love to have him. Half a dozen of the big lads in England would love to have him and we’ve got teams in Germany as well.”

Interestingly, Goodwin makes a comparison to John McGinn, as the Aston Villa maestro also came through the academy ranks at St Mirren.

Again quoted by the BBC, he said: “Obviously we talk about McGinn and what he’s doing in the Premier League and the Scottish national team. We don’t see why Dylan, without putting too much pressure on, can’t go on and do that type of thing.”

If Reid even becomes half the player McGinn is, Celtic and Rangers cannot allow him to leave Scotland.

Losing out to Villa in a bargain £2 million deal for McGinn must still feel sore for the Scottish giants, as he bosses things in the Premier League week in, week out.

In our view, Steven Gerrard has a better chance of signing Reid than Celtic do.

The Gers are looking secure, focused and organised as a club, having just won their 55th Scottish title.

However, Celtic are rudderless. Peter Lawwell is stepping down soon, and the Hoops are currently without a manager.

Having said that, Gerrard still has a job on his hands to fend off all the other clubs Goodwin states are interested.
