Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold getting omitted from the latest England squad.
The former England international striker has said that he is “bewildered” that Alexander-Arnold, 22, will not play for the Three Lions in their upcoming games.
Earlier today, England head coach Gareth Southgate announced his squad for the team’s World Cup qualifiers this month, and among the notable absentees was Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool are having a disappointing season in the Premier League and could miss out on the top four.
Alexander-Arnold has not been at his best this season. The right-back has looked tired on occasions, and his form has dipped.
However, the 22-year-old is a hugely talented player, and many will be surprised that Southgate has dropped him after what is probably the first time he has suffered a dip in form in his career so far.
According to WhoScored, the youngster has scored one goal and provided three assists in 27 Premier League matches and has provided two assists in six Champions League games for Liverpool this season.
