According to Give Me Sport, Rangers are interested in launching a summer move for Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga.
It’s claimed that Assombalonga is wanted in France and Belgium, given that his contract expires this summer and he would need to take a huge pay cut to stay at Boro.
Assombalonga has lost the Boro captaincy this season, and it seems inevitable that he will be leaving the Riverside Stadium this summer.
Rangers are thought to be interested now, viewing Assombalonga as a potential replacement for Jermain Defoe given that his deal ends soon.
Amazingly, Assombalonga was actually compared to Defoe himself way back in 2012, with Neil Harris offering huge praise to the Southend Echo.
Assombalonga, 28, has only scored five times this season, but hit double figures in his previous three seasons at Boro, as well as smashing 30 goals in 65 outings for Nottingham Forest.

The DR Congo international joined Boro for a huge £15million in 2017, and Rangers may feel that signing Assombalonga for free is a bargain.
Rangers have been linked with other strikers, such as Oostende’s Fashion Sakala, but Assombalonga’s record in England makes him an appealing option.
