Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club confirmed that Illan Meslier had been called up to France’s Under-21 squad by Sylvain Ripoll.
The 21-year-old has been rewarded for his excellent form this season, in which he has broken a Premier League record.
Lionel Messi’s Last Barca B XI: Where Are They Now?
Meslier became the first goalkeeper under the age of 21 to record nine Premier League clean sheets, before his 21st birthday on March 2nd.
The Lorient-born glovesman has never actually been capped by the Under-21 side as he battles for the shirt with Alban Lafont.
However, on the basis of his efforts this term, it would be incredibly harsh not to give him a maiden cap during the upcoming international break.
Ripoll’s side will tackle Denmark on March 25th, before facing Russia on March 28th and Iceland on March 31st.

In our view, as good as Lafont is, Meslier deserves to make at least one start in these three games.
The Leeds No.1 has made 27 Premier League starts this season, and is a goalkeeping wonderkid with massive potential.
Consider the fact that goalkeepers tend to play until their late thirties, Meslier could have a career at the top-level for roughly 20 years.
His potential is scary, and Leeds are reaping the rewards of having a fine prodigy in between the sticks for them.
Let’s see how the Leeds fans on Twitter reacted to the club’s announcement of his call up…
I nearly dropped my phone then, thought he’d been called up to the first team haha. He will one day, unreal keeper

More good news. Our keeper is 21 years year old & has done incredibly well to adjust to the pace, skills & opposition in the PL. He will only get better. Congrats to @MeslierIllan for the call up. Keep those sheets clean !!
