Some Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to the news that Liam Cooper will not play for Scotland during the upcoming international break.
Scotland will take on Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands later this month, but Cooper will not play in them.
In the Scotland squad that manager Steve Clarke announced at 12:30pm today, there is no mention of Cooper.
The 29-year-old central defender missed the Premier League game between Leeds and Chelsea at Elland Road at the weekend due to illness, as reported in The Yorkshire Evening Post.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke has explained why Cooper has been left out of the latest squad for the upcoming games.
The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes Clarke as saying about Cooper: ”He’s not available for the games. I spoke to Liam. He could maybe have been available for the third game but it’s not going to happen. We had a good chat about it and decided to go with the ones I’ve picked.”
It will come as a disappointment for the 29-year-old, who has played five times for the Scotland national football team.
The defender has been on the books of Leeds since 2014 and is a key figure in the team. According to WhoScored, Cooper has scored one goal in 21 Premier League games for the Whites so far this season.
Some Leeds fans are happy that Cooper will not feature for Scotland, as he could take the time to recover from his illness and get ready for Premier League action next month.
