DuckTales season 4 will not go ahead but why exactly was the show cancelled after three seasons? Renewal status explained.

Who doesn’t love a good bit of nostalgia?

So many remakes and reboots have been born from it and the likes of Stranger Things in recent years have wholly capitalised on transporting audiences back to the days of their iconic favourites.

On the other hand, the eighties were so much more than Ghostbusters and E.T. Many will remember a wealth of cartoons they couldn’t get enough of, with DuckTales being a popular example.

It premiered in 1987 and aired across four seasons. However, the latest incarnation hasn’t been so fortunate.

Back in 2017, Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones resurrected the animated show with such voice talents as David Tennant, Danny Pudi and more.

Nevertheless, it hasn’t been renewed for a fourth season…

DuckTales season 4: Why was it cancelled?

  • While Disney hasn’t given a reason, it’s worth noting that a reboot of Darkwing Duck is being developed.

The character has already been introduced in the late DuckTales series. In season 2 we saw Drake Mallard – the president of the Darkwing Duck fan club – become Darkwing, while his adopted daughter Gosalyn was ushered in for Season 3.

So, it’s arguable that the seeds have been sewn for the Darkwing series for some time. Perhaps Disney wishes to focus on a new venture which will still appeal to DuckTales. After all, three seasons is still a good run.

Darkwing Duck will be headed for Disney+.
