Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Tyler Roberts is evolving as a player.

Bielsa made the comments about Roberts following the goalless draw between Leeds and Chelsea at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Roberts, who can operate as a striker, winger or attacking midfielder, started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Roberts: “Yes, but the game today showed an evolution from Tyler in his game, as a nine and as a 10.”

How did Tyler Roberts play against Chelsea?

Roberts is not guaranteed a place in the Leeds starting lineup, but the 22-year-old did well against Chelsea.

The 22-year-old did not have a great first half, but the Wales international stepped up his game in the second period and came close to scoring.

According to WhoScored, the youngster took two shots and both were on target, had a pass accuracy of 63.6%, won two headers, took 43 touches, attempted three dribbles, made one interception and one clearance, and put in two crosses.

Meanwhile, Noel Whelan was impressed by the performance of Illan Meslier during Leeds’s goalless draw with Chelsea.

The French goalkeeper played well between the posts and made the saves when asked to.

Former Leeds striker Whelan was impressed by the display produced by Meslier.

Whelan said about Meslier on BBC Radio Leeds: “Meslier has been strong today.”

The Daily Record has reported that Leeds took Hibernian youngster Ethan Laidlaw on trial last week.

The striker recently signed his first professional contract with Hibernian, according to the report.
