Some Arsenal fans on Twitter believe that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made the wrong decision to sell Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

Bernd Leno made a mistake against Burnley in the Premier League last weekend, and the German goalkeeper made yet another error against Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The German goalkeeper played the ball short when he could have cleared it away amid danger.

Olympiakos took advantage of that mistake and scored, but Arsenal eventually went on to win the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 tie 3-1.

Martinez joined Villa from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million.

The 28-year-old got his chance to play regularly for the North London club’s first team in the final weeks of last season when Leno was injured.

However, once the 29-year-old got fit again, the German was reinstated as the first-choice goalkeeper, and Martinez was sold to Villa.

Leno’s mistake against Olympiakos on Thursday evening has led to some Arsenal fans on Twitter questioning Arteta’s decision to sell Martinez, as shown below.
