Goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist said that he is glad to see his fine form attract the attention of Celtic but told the Courier that he is ‘happy’ at Dundee United.

Neither Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain nor Conor Hazard have made the number one shirt their own during a hugely disappointing season for Celtic.

With the dethroned former champions looking to bounce back next term, a reliable shot-stopper may be one of their top priorities heading into the summer transfer window.

Siegrist’s agent admitted to the Mail recently that Celtic have scouted the 29-year-old on several occasions throughout 2020/21.

“If there was a chance to move to Celtic then that would be a very good step for Benjamin,” Dr Thomas Kraft said of the £1 million-rated former Aston Villa youngster.

Whether Siegrist himself feels the same remains to be seen. For now, the Swiss stopper is as coy as can be, insisting that he is loving life at Dundee United even if the rumours are a source of pride.

“It’s better having speculation about your future than the other way, people saying: ‘He’s the last guy we want!’” Siegrist quipped.

“I think that’s just the nature of football, if you play well then other teams are going to be interested but I’m happy here.

“You can tell by the way I’m playing. I think that’s a reflection of how settled I feel here.

“I’ve been away from Switzerland for over a decade so I feel quite settled and happy abroad here at Dundee United.

“What will be, will be. I’m not too worried about that.”

With his contract expiring in 2022, Dundee United may be forced to listen to offers if they cannot tie Siegrist down to a new long-term deal.

Swiss publication Blick claims that the one-time Basel prospect has admirers at CSKA Moscow and Bundesliga crisis-club Schalke.
