Stade Brestois coach Oliver Dall’Oglio insists that reported Leeds United target Romain Faivre needs to add more end product to his game if he is to become a ‘great player’, as he told Ouest France.

The former Monaco youngster might have been one of the breakthrough stars of the Ligue 1 campaign but, since the turn of the year, his form his dipped.

In his last 11 games, Faivre has produced just one goal and no assists, compared to four and three in the first half of 2020/21.

If the 22-year-old attacking midfielder wants to convince his many suitors, including Leeds, Manchester United, PSG and Borrussia Dortmund, to meet his £16 million price-tag, he would certainly benefit from emulating his pre-Christmas displays before the window swings opens.

“On finishing chances, there is still something for him to work on,” said Dall’Oglio.

“Now he is a boy who works a lot in the midfield, in the creation of chances. He is quite altruistic; he likes to make others play better. But that doesn’t stop him from scoring goals.

“In the final third, between passing or shooting, there are still things to work on. If he does, he will be a great player. He is aware of (the need to improve).”

According to L’Equipe, Leeds are big fans of a France U21 international who caught the eye of Thierry Henry during his brief spell in charge of Monaco, earning the admiration of the Arsenal legend with his penchant for a defence-splitting pass (SoFoot).

Faivre would slot in neatly at a Leeds side who, under Marcelo Bielsa, have built their success on a possession-heavy game-plan.

While it would be wrong to say Faivre is the finished article at this stage, Leeds do have a coach famed for turning potential into quality.
