Is the Dave season 2 release date confirmed yet? Let’s consider what we know about the FXX series’ return so far. Is it back in 2021?
Often known by his stage name – Lil Dicky – David Andrew Burd successfully transitioned from music into television back in March 2020 with Dave.
Premiering on FXX, the series was co-created by him and Jeff Schaffer, with Lil Dicky playing a fictionalised version of himself.
Telling the tale of a neurotic rapper in his late twenties who believes he’ll be one of the hip-hop greats, we accompany him as he navigates music, friendships and beyond. Season 1 concluded with episode 10 – titled ‘Jail’ – in April 2020 and audiences have been curious about its continuation ever since.
So, is the Dave season 2 release date confirmed yet?
Dave season 2 release date: Is it confirmed?
- No, the release date for Dave season 2 is yet to be confirmed but the show is scheduled to return at some point in 2021.
It was officially renewed in May, just one month after season 1 concluded.
Back in December 2020, Deadline gave fans an update and confirmed that Meagan Holder is set to join the cast as Tessa. It will be a recurring role and she will be the executive at the label responsible for Dave.
On Tuesday, March 9th 2021, GaTaGED tweeted a picture of Lil Dicky on set with the caption: “Proof is in the progress @DaveOnFXX Season 2.”
So, the project is officially filming! Taking this into consideration, perhaps it will arrive as early as this summer.
Lil Dicky talks Dave season 2
In conversation with Billboard ahead of the renewal, he was asked if there were things he and the crew wanted to do in season 1 but didn’t get to:
“There’s a lot of things. There were tons of times in the writer’s room where we’d talk about stories that happened to me in real life and we would say, ‘unfortunately if we do this now, [it will seem like] your character’s too famous’… stories where in season 2 or 3, we’ll be able to do. I feel like we’ll be less limited.”
Of course, the show was renewed, so fans can expect to see some more of Lil Dicky’s stories realised on screen in season 2.
Also, when told that the show became FXX’s highest-rated sitcom, he reflected: “I knew that it would be good, that to me was a foregone conclusion. The subject matter is too good, I put too much time and energy into it, the people who work on it are too smart, the actors are too funny and good for it not to be bare-minimum good…”
