It has been reported that Big Hit Entertainment, who represent K Pop band BTS, will be changing their name to HYBE Corporation, and fans have began reacting to the news on Twitter.
The Big Hit website states: “Big Hit Entertainment continues to make new innovations to the music industry business model. Big Hit strives to become the world’s best music-based entertainment lifestyle platform company.”
Big Hit was founded back in 2005, and BTS debuted under the company in June 2013 which catapulted it into international success.
Why are Big Hit now called HYBE?
It has been reported that the name change from Big Hit to HYBE marks the transformation from a management agency to a comprehensive content company.
According to All Kpop, company head Bang Si Hyuk previously said:
“We’ll become the world’s leading entertainment and lifestyle platform company. By removing ‘entertainment,’ we’ll have a new, comprehensive image as a general content group, which is our mission.”
The general shareholder’s meeting covering the name change from Big Hit Entertainment to HYBE Corporation will be held on March 30 KST.
Fans react to Big Hit Entertainment name change
K Pop fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the potential name change from Big Hit to HYBE, and many of them seem less than impressed with the rebranding. One fan said: “I’m not ready to let go of Big Hit’s iconic intro because of HYBE.”
A Twitter page called “allkpop” posted a poll on March 10th asking fans which name they preferred. At the time of publication, Big Hit entertainment has received over 90% of the votes, and HYBE has 9.2% of the votes.
