Barcelona and Celtic have been linked with Sidnei Tavares, and the Spanish and the Scottish giants would have been impressed by the performance of the Leicester City midfielder if they were watching him last night.
Celtic and Barcelona interest
The Sun reported in January 2021 that Barcelona have a gentleman’s agreement with Leicester to be Tavares’s first-choice club should he not sign a new deal and decide to leave in the summer of 2021.
The report also claimed interest in the 19-year-old midfielder from Celtic among other clubs, stating that the Hoops have been keeping tabs on him.
In action
The Portuguese youngster was in action for Leicester last night, and his performance against Brighton and Hove Albion away from home impressed manager Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers, a former Celtic boss, included the midfielder in the starting lineup, and the teenager played for 72 minutes, as the Foxes won 2-1.
According to WhoScored, Tavares took one shot which was on target, had a pass accuracy of 68%, won one header, took 35 touches, and made one tackle.
So far this season, the youngster has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Premier League and has played 10 minutes in the Europa League for Leicester, according to WhoScored.

Brendan Rodgers impressed
TEAMtalk quotes Rodgers as saying about Tavares: “We’re obviously thin on the ground with attacking players. Sidnei Tavares was excellent. Technically he’s very good. I felt we needed that player who can take the ball and pass it forward. It was a nice 70 minutes for him. He’s a talent.
“He needs to get more physical in the game. He loves the ball, that’s the type of player I like. He nearly scored a great goal. There’s a great opportunity here for him if he continues to work and keeps his head down and doesn’t get carried away.”
