Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:50pm, March 6, 2021) that he feels for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Xhaka made a poor mistake against Burnley that led to a goal from Chris Wood in the first half.
The Premier League game between Burnley and Arsenal at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon ended in a 1-1 draw.
The result increases doubts on the Gunners’ chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
Arsenal legend Wright has said that it was a bad mistake from Xhaka, but he believes that the Switzerland international midfielder has been playing well this season.
Wright said about Xhaka on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:50pm, March 6, 2021): “I feel for him because he has been playing very well with Thomas Partey, but that kinda cost us.”
Mistakes happen
While it would be easy to slam Xhaka and criticise him strongly, one must remember that mistakes happen with all footballers.
It was an error of judgement from the midfielder, and Arsenal fans will hope that he learns from it.
Xhaka is an important player for Arsenal, and it is unlikely that manager Mikel Arteta will drop him from the team because of the mistake against Burnley.
According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has made 22 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process.
