Leicester City are back in the race to sign long-time transfer target Ismail Jakobs with Brighton also making an enquiry for the Bundesliga youngster, as reported by the Mail.
The fact that FC Koln have handed Jakobs a new contract on two separate occasions within the last 12 months should tell you a lot about how highly this Germany U21 international is rated in the Cathedral City.
Aware of the growing interest from both in and outside the Bundesliga, The Billy Goats have done their level best to ensure that the jet-heeled left-winner stays in the Rhein Energie Stadion paddock for a while yet.
Then again, with Premier League offers on the table, retaining Jakobs beyond this summer may be easier said than done – especially if Koln cannot keep the wolf of relegation from their door.
Markus Gisdol’s side are just four points above the relegation zone and have lost each of their last three matches.

21-year-old Jakobs has been a bright spark in a disappointing campaign, impressing with his searing pace and attacking intent in a number of roles.
The Koln-born wide man is equally comfortable at left-back as he is further forward on the wing.
With that in mind, Jakobs should thrive under Brendan Rodgers in a Leicester side who give so much creative licence to their wide players. Jakobs would offer more balance on the left, considering that both James Justin and Timothy Castagne are right-footed, while potentially replacing title-winning veteran Christian Fuchs.
The Austrian’s contract will expire in July.
Jakobs was linked with Leicester back in February 2020 too, via the Mail.
