Reported Leeds, Tottenham and West Ham United target Mikkel Damsgaard must stay and continue honing his talents at Sampdoria, former Denmark international Thomas Helveg told Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 20-year-old winger may be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war after a fine debut season in Serie A, but he is certainly not getting carried away just yet.
“Having only scored two goals, I don’t think I’ve done so much to deserve it!” the lightning Dane said this week.
Clearly, Damsgaard is a humble character with his head screwed on tight.
But, regardless of whether he believes he is worthy of such interest, the fact remains that his dazzling performances have not gone unnoticed.
According to the Daily Star, Leeds, Southampton, West Ham and Spurs are all watching the £15 million-rated winger like a hungry hawk. Damsgaard is also a target for Leicester City after a fine run of form under former Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri (Calciomercato).
Helveg, however, is quick to warn Damsgaard about falling into a trap which has snared many a talented youngster. The phrase ‘too much, too soon’ comes to mind.

“He is a great talent, he will have a big future,” said the former Inter, AC Milan and Norwich City defender.
“Sampdoria is the ideal place to grow and Ranieri is the right coach.”
Helveg will be pleased to learn, then, that Damsgaard has no plans to type up a transfer request any time soon.
When asked about a summer departure, the former Nordsjaelland starlet suggested that his focus is still firmly fixed on Sampdoria.
