Where was Coming 2 America filmed?

  • Coming 2 America was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.

It may surprise audiences that the sequel wasn’t shot in Queens, New York City. Instead, the cast and crew worked to create the illusion of the borough in Atlanta streets and on the Tyler Perry Studio sound stages. They began filming back in August 2019.

Within the Coming 2 America press notes, Jefferson Sage – the film’s production designer – explained:

“There’s enough of a complex of streets and buildings in Atlanta that gave us the core of what New York would be. Because we don’t spend a great deal of time in Queens in this movie, we had enough infrastructure to do some street setups. And when we created interiors on stage, we were careful about finding views out of the windows that were New York-oriented.”

As for the palace sequences, he added: “We didn’t set out to recreate the first palace, so much as reinvent it. We referenced it in certain exterior scenes and used digital effects to create specific looks that might be familiar to fans.”

Now, where else was Coming 2 America filmed?

Coming 2 America filmed at Rick Ross’ mansion!

That’s right… American rapper Rick Ross’ Georgia estate was used as a filming location for Coming 2 America.

The 45-year-old addressed this in a 2019 interview on Atlanta’s Power 96.1 radio station with Nick Cannon: “The reason why I’m believing in [the film] so much is because they are filming at my estate in Atlanta. It’s going to be dope.”

In January 2021, Distractify notes that he also posted a video of people waiting outside of his property and explained: “What you see outside my door is the gathering of film producers and directors that possibly wanna rent the estate for another film. And as we all know, we have the one and only Coming 2 America that was filmed right here on this same estate. It’s not free to come check out the estate.”

As for what to expect, the entrepreneur’s home sits on 235 acres of land located in Fayetteville, Ga. There are a whopping 109 rooms in total, including 12 bedrooms, a bowling alley and even a cinema with a capacity of over 100.

There’s a 35,000-gallon pool too, so audiences will be pretty eager to glimpse any of these assets in the movie.

Rick actually bought it from the boxer, Evan Holyfield, back in 2014 for roughly $5.8 million.
