Celtic have expressed their interest in signing right-back Milan van Ewijk from Eredivisie outfit ADO Den Haag ahead of the summer transfer window, as reported by Voetbal International.

While Jonjoe Kenny might have done a good job of filling a Jeremie Frimpong-shaped void since joining from Everton in January, the replacement will need replacing before too long.

Kenny is only on loan at Celtic until the summer, and it seems unlikely that the Glasgow giants would be able to stump up the sort of fee Everton would want for a gifted England U21 international.

The versatile Kristoffer Ajer, who has produced some of his best recent performances at full-back, is also expected to depart with his contract running until 2022.

So, for Celtic, finding a new right-sided defender is a must.

According to reports coming out of the Netherlands, the search has led them to a 20-year-old Amsterdammer impressing in a relegation-threatened ADO Den Haag side.

Like Ajer, Van Ewijk is due to become a free agent in 2022 with the German trio Darmstadt, Hamburg and Schalke also keen.

Celtic have expressed their interest and, with Schalke in dire straits on and off the pitch, it is no stretch to suggest that Glasgow may be the most alluring destination for Van Ewijk.

“At the moment, Milan is focusing on the relegation battle with ADO,” said his agent Style de Jong.

“He doesn’t get distracted by all the interest. Moreover, together we have drawn up a roadmap to make the best choices in his early but promising career. We stick to that.”

It remains to be seen whether Van Ewijk can emulate the impact Frimpong made at Celtic before his £11.5 million move to Bayer Leverkusen.
