Emotional tributes have poured out to comedian Erica Watson after the news about her death.

Chicago actress and stand-up comedian Erica Watson has died at the age of 48.

Fans and those who knew Erica have paid heartbreaking tributes on social media and shared fond memories about the late actress.

Erica Watson has died

Erica’s brother confirmed she died in Jamaica following Covid-19 complications, CBS Chicago has reported. The actress turned 48 years old last Friday, February 26th.

April Williams, lead agent for the Chicago and New York offices of Gill Talent Group, told Newsradio:

“Erica was loved and adored by just so many people. She had such a vibrant, vivacious spirit. I really hope and am praying that she knew what a gem to Chicago she was and how proud we were of her.”

Who was Erica Watson?

Erica Watson was a comedian, actress and producer. She was born on February 26th, 1973 in Chicago.

The actress was a native of the Hyde Park neighbourhood and studied at Kenwood Academy High School and Columbia College Chicago.

Erica is best known for her appearances in several TV and radio shows such as the daytime talk show Windy City Live.

The actress also has a number of acting credits. She appeared in the movies Precious, ChiRaq, Top Five and Side Effects, as well as two episodes of Empire in 2015 and 2018.

Many fans and fellow celebrities took to Twitter to share emotional tributes to Erica.

“I’m sorry to hear about the passing of Erica Watson. Erica was a talented, bright light. With every conversation, she made you feel as if you had been friends for years, even if you had only met virtually. I send my prayers to her friends and family,” attorney Kim Foxx tweeted.

Reporter Brandon Pope said: “I am heartbroken. COVID continues to exact a heavy toll. Can’t even fathom saying Erica Watson’s name in the past tense. Such a warm, loving and fun spirit. And a woman who always put the community first. She’s brought smiles around the country for a long time. Rest well, Queen.”
