Stan Collymore has praised Aston Villa on Twitter for their win at Elland Road and has responded to a critical comment from a Leeds United fan.
Leeds went down 1-0 to Villa at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Anwar El Ghazi scored the only goal of the match after just five minutes when he brilliantly controlled Ollie Watkinss cross and fired past Illan Meslier.
Former Villa striker Collymore was following the match, and he has revelled in the win for Dean Smith’s side and has also responded to a Leeds fan.
Collymore responded: “Counter attacking isn’t anti football. I know you lot are weaned on “f**k it, lets play as though we’re on a playground ” but good teams have several ways of playing depending on personnel, injuries, form. As was normal for 150 yrs before hipsters decided losing 4-0 was cool.”
Leeds did have the bulk of the possession and attempted more shots, according to BBC Sport, but on the balance of play Villa were the better team.
The Villans defended strongly and played well on the counter-attack. It made sense as the visiting team were without their star player and key attacking midfielder Jack Grealish.
However, Leeds should be commended for always sticking to head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s philosophy and playing all-attacking football.
The Whites have been playing gung-ho football all season, and that is a big reason why they are doing so well.
