Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has told The Guardian that he wanted to leave the club at the end of last season.
Ndombele has said that he met with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy regarding a potential exit in the summer of 2020.
However, the Spurs chief persuaded the France international midfielder not to leave the North London club.
The 24-year-old has stated what Levy told Ndombele when he said that he wanted to leave.
Ndombele told The Guardian: “To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know how close I was to leaving. What I know is that I did want to leave.
“I spoke about this with people at the club and, particularly, with the chairman. He said he didn’t want me to leave and, definitely, that’s something that helped. He looked me in the eyes and said to me: ‘The problem is that you’re stubborn.’”

Important player for Tottenham Hotspur
Ndombele did not have a good campaign on a personal level in 2019-20, but the Frenchman has established himself as a key figure in Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho’s team this season.
According to WhoScored, the Frenchman has made 20 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs so far this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
The 24-year-old has also made two starts and three appearances in the Europa League for Tottenham this campaign, providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
For Spurs to finish in the top four of the Premier League table and win the Europa League this season, Ndombele will have to continue to play well in the coming weeks.
