West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in anger after hearing something that Andy Townsend said on talkSPORT about the club’s excellent form.
You can see what the well-known commentator said in the video below.
💪 “At the moment, I’m seeing a West Ham team playing with freedom & look a unit.”— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) February 24, 2021
🤔 “There’s certain clubs that miss their supporters. I don’t think West Ham do.”

Now, the 57-year-old’s comments are incredibly disrespectful to David Moyes, his staff, and the players at the London Stadium.
Townsend effectively claimed that the Hammers’ excellent season has largely been down to a lack of negativity pouring from the London Stadium terraces.
That is, quite simply, a silly thing to say.
Yes, the West Ham supporters have brought negativity into the ground in the past, there’s no denying that.
However, that has only occurred during some dreadful times, where players didn’t look interested, managers were under pressure and there was frustration with the board.
The latter is still present.
Having said that, we’re almost certain that fans wouldn’t be booing or moaning about David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady if they were watching the stunning football that’s happening now.
The London Stadium faithful just want to see their team do well – they wouldn’t look to bring the mood down on purpose just because of GSB.
Townsend’s comments don’t give Moyes, his staff and the players anywhere near enough credit for what they’ve achieved this term.
The West Ham fans on Twitter are rightly annoyed.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying…
Such a poor narrative. Takes all the credit away from Moyes and the players. Lazy journalism— Louie James #GSBOUT (@LouieJa78268894) February 25, 2021
Again, incredibly lazy journalism and opinion. We happen to be playing wel and it’s because the fans aren’t there, but in the 15/16 season we played well despite the fans? It’s a daft and paper thin point of view— Chicago Hammers (@ChicagoHammers) February 25, 2021
Really?? This again. Such a lazy & easy thing for pundits to say. They have no idea if it’s true, nobody does. I personally think it’s nonsense. This isn’t the first decent season we’ve ever had.— Gary Mills ⚒ (@GaryMillsy) February 24, 2021
What total rubbish— Gizz (@boreham_gary) February 24, 2021
So disrespectul to the players— Talkin West Ham #GSBOUT (@TalkinWestHam) February 25, 2021
