With the stills for ‘Kingdom: Ashin of the North’ dropping online, fans are wondering when season 3 will release on Netflix?
If you enjoy zombie TV series or films, there may not be another series quite like Netflix’s Kingdom for you to sink your teeth into.
The South Korean drama is nothing short of a masterpiece in high-quality production and storytelling, with many fans arguing that it is one of the best original series on the entire streaming platform.
However, nearly a year after the second season of Kingdom debuted, fans are now wondering if and when the series will return for season 3.
Will there be a season 3 of Kingdom?
At the time of writing, Netflix’s hit Korean zombie series has not been officially renewed for a third season, but fans shouldn’t panic just yet as the series is highly likely to return at some point.
Not only is Kingdom one of the most popular Korean series on the entire platform, scoring an incredible 8.4/10 on IMDB and 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the production team are confident that the show will return.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Kim Eun-hee said that “there’s so much more to tell and if viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10.”
At an event in early-2021, the director of Kingdom Kim Sung Hoon said that the “Kingdom: Ashin of the North [the upcoming special episode] will be a stepping stone to go beyond Kingdom 3.”
Kingdom season 3 release date…
- A release date for Kingdom season 3 has not yet been officially announced, but the hit Korean zombie series is expected to return on Netflix in late-2021.
As the series has not been officially renewed for a third season, predicting a potential release date remains difficult.
Based on the production schedule for previous seasons, (roughly 18 months and 13 months respectively) and the lack of official information, fans shouldn’t expect more zombie-slaying action until at least the latter months of 2021.
However, What’s on Netflix speculate that whilst a 2021 premiere remains a possibility, a 2022 return is more likely.
However, there is good news for fans of Kingdom, the series will return with a special episode this year – see below.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North
Netflix will release a special episode of Kingdom called ‘Ashin of the North’ at some point in 2021. Whilst a more specific release date has not been confirmed, fans are hoping this special episode will premiere in Summer 2021.
Ashin of the North will focus on Gianna Jun, the mysterious woman who appeared in the final moments of season 2.
“Taking place in the Northern Korean Peninsula, we will learn the origins and the identity of Gianna Jun, as well as the head of the Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok. The exploration into the origin of the resurrection plant will also be delved into.” – What’s on Netflix.
