According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have been looking towards the free agent market for this summer’s transfer window.
The Magpies did similar with Jeff Hendrick last summer, landing him on a free transfer after he allowed his Burnley deal to expire.
Steve Bruce knows he doesn’t have the biggest budget in the Premier League, so landing free agents has to be a focus ahead of the summer.
England’s Best Uncapped XI
A number of players around the world will be free agents this summer, but one player mentioned in the report is AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu.

Newcastle have allegedly looked at him extensively in the past, and his status as a free agent could spark their interest again.
The 27-year-old is out of contract this summer, despite racking up six goals and 11 assists this season, and he could walk away.
A technically gifted number 10 with outstanding quality on the ball, Calhanoglu has been known for long-range goals and dangerous set pieces over the years, whilst his creativity would be a welcome addition for Newcastle given that he was branded ‘the new Ozil’ by Roger Schmidt in 2015.
Whether the Magpies have a realistic shot of landing him this summer remains to be seen, but it seems that he may well be an exciting name on the radar for Bruce and co.
