Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Mason Holgate has shared that Duncan Ferguson almost cried when Everton beat Liverpool at the weekend.

Ferguson has been a part of Everton as a player and a staff member for a number of years, and he’s rarely seen the Toffees on the winning side of a Merseyside derby, let alone at Anfield.

Holgate says Ferguson was almost crying on the pitch after the game, and we can understand why.

“For me he’s been massive, because there’s been points when I was younger at Everton when I couldn’t see a way through and he’d always have time and speak to you and try to look out for you and look out for the young lads and he’s backed us many times,” Holgate said about Ferguson.

The defender went on to speak about how much of an influence he’s had on the young players, before going on to speak about how passionate he is.

“He’s someone who loves the club, and to have someone like that who know what it means and stuff like that and to be able to get it over to you . We could see the other day, he was nearly crying when he came on the pitch, then in the changing room he was just sat there saying ‘I didn’t think I’d see the day’, you could see how much it meant to him.”

Ferguson has always had the reputation of being a hard-man, so hearing that he was almost crying after the game is slightly amusing.

Of course, he had every right to be emotional after the game, he’s worked hard with these players all season, and this win was a massive result in what is turning out to be a fantastic season for the Toffees.

It’s great to hear that Ferguson cares so much, and we can only hope that every Everton player can one day share his passion.
