Cole said about Firmino on talkSPORT (4:54pm, February 21, 2021): “I think when he is playing, creating chances for his teammates, starts to press, he does a sterling job as a centre-forward.

“Yeah, I know, centre-forwards are in the team to score loads of goals, but he is different. He is totally different than a number nine that will get you 15-20 goals a season. He contributes so much more.”

The Englishman added: “This has been his most disappointing season for whatever season, but in saying that, Liverpool as a whole, if you take away the injuries, they will be disappointed how they have tried to retain the title.”

Does Roberto Firmino need to do more?

Firmino is not having the best of times at Liverpool and has been criticised by some.

The Brazilian is not scoring enough goals and is not creating as many chances as he normally does.

However, the 29-year-old is still a world-class attacking player and remains a key figure at Liverpool.

According to WhoScored, the forward has made 23 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Reds so far this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists in the process.

Firmino has also made two starts and five substitute appearances in the Champions League for the defending English champions so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Liverpool fans should stay optimistic that Firmino will get back to his best soon.
