A mariachi band played outside of Ted Cruz’s house on Sunday following backlash over the Texas senator’s short holiday in Cancun.
Last week, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was criticised on social media after he flew to Mexico for a family holiday whilst the state has been hit by the coldest weather in over 30 years.
Joe Biden approved a state of emergency in Texas after temperatures drop to -18C and 4.3 million people were left without electricity.
Ted Cruz returned to Texas and said in a statement that he planned the trip for his children but flew back to the US because it “didn’t feel right”.
On Sunday, a video emerged on Twitter that showed a mariachi band playing outside of Mr. Cruz’s house but who are they?

On Sunday (February 21st), people on Twitter reshared a clip of a mariachi band playing outside of Ted Cruz’s house.
The video shows a group of musicians performing as other people and neighbours gathered in front of the senator’s house.
According to the Independent, the performance was organised by Adam Jama from Carrollton, Texas.
Adam shared a fundraising page on GoFundMe which says that “no one should go to Cancun and not listen to Mariachi”, adding that the raised funds will go to Texas Children’s Hospital.
“Senator Cruz, being an amazing dad, dropped off his family in Cancun in the middle of a major crisis and came back to Texas to continue serving his constituents,” wrote Adam Jama. “We want to thank Senator Cruz for his leadership and pay for an amazing mariachi band to perform for him. No one should go to Cancun and not listen to mariachi.”
Who is the Mariachi band?
The Mariachi band that played outside of Ted Cruz’s house is a band called Mariachi Mi Mexico.
The musicians are based in Texas and perform at different events such as weddings and wedding proposals.
