There was a lot of trepidation surrounding the All Creatures Great and Small remake when it was first announced.

However, the series – which has aired on Channel 5 in the UK and PBS in the US – has proven to be a huge hit.

Has All Creatures Great and Small been renewed for season 2?

  • Yes, Channel 5 and PBS’s All Creatures Great and Small has already been renewed for season 2.

Thankfully, All Creatures fans haven’t been left in the dark about the series’ future as the show renewed for season 2 on September 2nd according to Deadline, the day after episode 1 aired in the UK.

All Creatures’ opening episode earned an impressive 6.69 million viewers over its first week, the biggest audience for a Channel 5 drama in the UK for almost five years.

No release date information has been announced at the time of writing.

Ordinarily, fans would expect a new season to arrive roughly a year after the first instalment, but given the worldwide production delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, All Creatures may return a little later than planned.

Potential plot of season 2

All Creatures’ Christmas special, which aired on February 21st as episode 7 in the US, left plenty of room for season 2 to explore.

After Helen Alderson announced her engagement to the wealthy Hugh Hulton at the end of season 1, breaking James’ heart in the process, a late-night vet callout with James on the eve of her wedding causes her to rethink.

In a dramatic turn of events, she goes back on the arrangement the next day by leaving Hugh at the alter, leaving the door open for James to win Helen’s heart in season 2.

All Creatures Great and Small season 1 and its Christmas special are available to stream now on My5 in the UK.
