Glenn Hoddle said on BT Sport 1 (8:55pm, February 18, 2021) that he could not believe the miss from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against Benfica last night.

Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw with Benfica away from home in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 tie on Thursday evening.

However, things could have been very different for the Premier League club had star striker Aubameyang not missed an easy chance in the first half.

Hector Bellerin picked up a brilliant pass from Daniel Ceballos and rolled the ball across the face of goal.

It was set up perfectly for Aubameyang, who had the entire goal to aim at. However, inexplicably, the Gabon international striker put the ball wide.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Hoddle was following the match for BT Sports, and he was stunned that Aubameyang could not score.

Hoddle said on BT Sport 1 (8:55pm, February 18, 2021), as transcribed by Football.London: “I can’t understand for the life of me how Aubameyang has missed that. You can’t ask for a better chance, you’ve just scored a hat-trick at the weekend.”

Moving on

Aubameyang scored a hat-trick against Leeds United in the Premier League last weekend.

The striker is one of the best in the business, and his miss will have certainly shocked many Arsenal fans.

However, there is nothing anyone can do now, and one should remember that all strikers miss chances.
