Speaking on Off The Ball’s YouTube channel, Mark Lawrenson has claimed that everybody has been telling him that Ozan Kabak is going to be a top player.
The Turkish defender arrived at Anfield on deadline day in January, and while he didn’t have the best debut against Leicester City, Lawrenson still has faith in him to come good, claiming that he’s been told by everybody that has seen him play that he’s going to be a top player.
“He was comfortable, but don’t forget that he’s not playing with an experienced centre-back who is going to talk him through it,” Lawrenson said.
“My heart went out for him, because if he’s alongside even Matip, let alone van Dijk or Gomez he skates through it, and it was just a difficult start for him.
“But everybody tells me that’s seen him play in Germany that he’s going to be a proper player, so people who I respect, I would have to take their impression rather than just seeing him for 90 minutes.”

Kabak is only 20 years old, so there’s every chance he’ll grow to become a quality player, but he’s only at Anfield on loan, so he needs to start showing that quality in the near future.

It does seem as though he’s very highly rated in some circles though, and that bodes well for Liverpool.
If he performs well over the next few months, the Reds will certainly have to consider taking up their option to buy him in the summer.
However, he’s only played one game for the Reds so far, so it’s best not to get ahead of ourselves, but it does seem as though he’s a player worth keeping an eye on.
