Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is a potential candidate to takeover at Tottenham Hotspur if Jose Mourinho leaves, the Athletic reporter Jack Pitt-Brooke claims.

Speaking to the Athletic’s Youtube channel the journalist says that Hasenhuttl’s name has emerged as a potential candidate to takeover at Tottenham, after the impressive job he has done at Southampton.

While any change is not thought to be imminent, it is believed that Spurs are looking at potential options to replace Mourinho.

And Hasenhuttl is one of the names on Spurs’s wishlist, alongside Julian Nagelsmann.

“In terms of what Spurs would do next if he were to go. The two names I have heard from sources have been Julian Nagelsmann and Ralph Hasenhuttl as potential replacements for Mourinho, should he have to go,” Pitt Brooke said.

“I don’t think that we are in that situation at the moment. Speaking to a source familiar with Daniel Levy’s thinking the other day, I don’t think they’ll be any imminent decision on this. I think it will depend on the League Cup and the Europa League and the end to the Premier League campaign.

“But is is quite possible that there will be a change of direction at Tottenham in the summer.”

Hasenhuttl has done a fine job at Southampton and if Tottenham were to go for him it would obviously bring back memories of their move for Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs plucked Pochettino from the Saints, and the Argentine went on to have major success in North London.

Hasenhuttl is a vastly different type of manager to Mourinho, who promotes a style which encourages his side to press high up the pitch.

The Austrian has made Southampton a real force to be reckoned with in the Premier League, and with higher quality players at his disposal there is a feeling that he could become one of the elite managers in world football.
