Ravel Morrison has admitted that he didn’t realise ‘how big of a game’ West Ham and Tottenham’s rivalry was, as he told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.

The Old Trafford academy product has a special place in West Ham’s heart after his quite brilliant solo goal for the Hammers in 2013 against Spurs.

It was just a glimpse of what the fallen talent could produce on his day, as he struggled to hit the heights many thought he would in his career.

Nonetheless, Morrison shared what he told Kevin Nolan in the warm-up of West Ham’s famous 3-0 win at Tottenham in 2013.

“You speak about West Ham,” said Ferdinand. “And West Ham’s biggest game is Spurs and that goal you scored.”

Morrison responded: “I didn’t realise how big of a game it was. I was chatting to Kevin (Nolan) in the warm-up and saying ‘I think we will beat these today. I feel confident’.

“But I didn’t know it was a derby. I thought Millwall was the West Ham derby. After that game, it was like ‘Woah’. I think as a team in that game we played well.

“That was perhaps the most enjoyable and best game I have ever played.”

It could be argued that Morrison played his best career in the colours of West Ham and it would have been interesting to see what he would have achieved had he stayed on at the club.

Over the years, West Ham supporters have seen some mavericks dazzle opponents on their turf, and whilst Morrison didn’t reach the levels of a Paolo Di Canio, he still produced a special moment for those in East London.

Now, the Hammers, who are currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table, are chasing Champions League football under David Moyes following their pretty comfortable win against Sheffield United on Monday.
