Don Hutchison thinks West Ham’s Craig Dawson is signing of the season, better than Hojbjerg

West Ham United picked up yet another win on Monday night, beating Sheffield United 3-0 at the London Stadium.

Declan Rice opened the scoring from the penalty spot when Jesse Lingard was brought down, and Issa Diop headed in a second after the break with Ryan Fredericks sealing all three points late on.

The win moves West Ham into fifth place in the Premier League table, leapfrogging Liverpool in what is becoming a quite stunning season for David Moyes.

West Ham have won six of their last eight games, conceding just five goals in that run – and defender Craig Dawson deserves huge praise.

Moyes moved to sign Dawson in October, taking him on loan from relegated Watford with a view to a permanent move this coming summer.

Fans weren’t convinced that the 30-year-old was a good addition; he’s hardly an exciting addition, but supporters who wanted better must be impressed with him now.

Dawson was excellent again on Monday night, and pundit Don Hutchison took to Twitter to suggest that the somewhat unheralded defender is actually the signing of the season.

When fans hit back with other names, Hutchison laughed at the idea of Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes or Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg being better, seeming feeling Dawson has been more impressive than both.
