Reported Rangers target Francis Amuzu has been hailed by Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany after a brilliant display in a 5-0 Belgian Cup victory over Union Saint Gilloise, as reported by KickGH.

Almost two years ago, the Glasgow giants paid a substantial sum of money to bring a talented young winger to Ibrox. Flash forwards to early 2021 and, with the title almost in the proverbial bag, Ryan Kent looks like £7 million well spent.

And if Steven Gerrard can work his magic on Amuzu too, do not bet against the Belgian U21 international emulating Kent’s impact in the blue half of Scotland’s second city.

According to Voetbal24, the Ghana-born speed-machine has been on Rangers’ radar since the summer of 2020.

And, with a £3.6 million release clause in his contract, Anderlecht may be powerless to prevent Amuzu’s departure if the Premiership champions-elect come calling again.

RCSA coach Vincent Kompany would be understandably disappointed to see Amuzu go. But this is just the way Anderlecht operate; find young gems and turn them into diamonds.

”He is a guy who has a lot of margin for progression. Amuzu creates a lot of danger and I don’t just look at his statistics, because he has created a lot of chances that were then not finished,” says the Manchester City icon, who watched the jet-heeled winger bag two assists against Union SG.

“We can still make a lot of progress in terms of our efficiency (in front of goal).”

The versatile Amuzu is comfortable on both flanks though his best performances have arguably come on the right-hand side.

And, in truth, Rangers don’t really have an orthodox, right-sided winger in their squad. Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe would all consider themselves ‘central’ players, with Amuzu capable of giving Gerrard something a little different out wide.
