Harry Redknapp told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (14/02/21 at 1:45 pm) that Patrick Bamford has been ‘fantastic’ for Leeds United.

The former Premier League boss also claimed that the 12-goal striker is ‘right up there’ with some of England’s best forwards.

There is a real race on for who will be in Gareth Southgate’s forthcoming Three Lions squad ahead of the Euros in the summer.

Someone like Bamford is on the tip of the tongue for many people, including Harry Redknapp.

On whether he saw this coming from Bamford: “No, he has been everywhere hasn’t he?” said Redknapp.

“But I think he looks a fantastic player. His finishing has been (outstanding).

“I can see him making the England squad. If we are picking it on performances then he has to be right there, hasn’t he?”

Given that Bamford hasn’t been capped by his country yet, he may need to persuade those with power that little extra compared to his competition, who already have caps to their name.

For example, Bamford has more goals than Southampton’s Danny Ings this season, but he has earned his caps, as well as having scored for his country.

But the key for the one-time Chelsea academy is to continue on his current path because it is leading him in one direction and that’s to St George’s Park.
