Dean Smith told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Aston Villa’s goalless draw against Brighton on Saturday evening that ‘it looks like’ Matty Cash has pulled his hamstring.
The 23-year-old went off in the second half holding the back of his leg and was replaced by Ahmed Elmohamady.
Aside from any suspensions, Cash has been one of the first names on the team sheet for Villa since his £16 million move in the summer (BBC Sport).
But the bad news for the Villa Park faithful is that they may now have to do without their right-sided aggressor for a small period.
“It looks like a hamstring injury,” said Smith. “I think he was turning and he got pushed as he was turning. Then he has felt his hamstring.
“In this cold whether, that can happen.”

When Villa survived relegation last season, not many supporters expected Cash or a right-back to walk through the doors.
But those very same Villa fans are now grateful that he did because he has helped transform this now difficult-to-beat all-English backline.
Cash’s intelligence to press at the right time, aggression and power in his defensive work has seen him become one of Villa’s best players this season.
