Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has raved about Manchester City central defender Ruben Dias on Sky Sports.
Mourinho has been impressed by the performances of Dias for City so far this season.
The Portuguese coach made the comments ahead of the Premier League game between City and Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Mourinho told Sky Sports: “Ruben has an incredible influence on that improvement. I’m very pleased that a very good kid, very humble, very hard working, has arrived in the Premier League and makes the impact that he has made. I’m very, very pleased with that.”
Tottenham Hotspur wanted Ruben Dias
Tottenham were linked with a move for Dias before he joined City from Benfica in the summer of 2020.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed in September 2020 that Spurs head coach Mourinho wanted to sign the 23-year-old Portugal international.
Romano said on the Here We Go podcast: “He was really close to joining Tottenham, but he was not the first choice. Mourinho had contact with him and had convinced him to come.
“Ruben Dias was really ready to join Tottenham, he had personal terms agreed, if Tottenham had found agreement with Benfica Ruben Dias was Tottenham player.”
Making an impact at Manchester City
Dias has been brilliant for City so far this season and has been a big reason why the team are doing so well at the moment.
The 23-year-old has been a rock at the back, as Pep Guardiola’s side look set to win the Premier League title for the third time in four years.
According to WhoScored, Dias has played 20 times in the Premier League and has played four games in the Champions League for the Citizens so far this season.
